I am going to have to build a permanent chicken coop soon, if the eggs hatch I will have the possibility of 20 more chickens. The eggs are my neighbors though, and I think they are past their due date. I have two broody hens, I had loaned out my favorite rooster to the neighbor so they could have some diversity in their flock...they were hoping to have broody hens but their hens would not sit on the eggs...mine have, but it may have been to late to save the babies that may have been forming inside of those eggs. I will give it a couple more days, but I don't have much hope. I will try and break the broodiness of at least one of the hens...they get weak, don't eat enough and so on. My other chickens have been getting in the nest with them and laying eggs though. I decided to let the rooster out, so I could have some babies if they will rotate duties. I have a lot of extra eggs right now, so even if they don't hatch those...we will try again in a month or so.
The baby ducks are cute, only a day or two old so far. I am keeping them warm under a heat lamp in the house for now. They are 4 Mallards and 2 Khaki Campbell, I haven't got a clue as to if they are male or female, but time will tell. I will have to build something for them soon, they grow fast and will start laying eggs around 5 months old. My husband would like to get a turkey too! I am game...just make the coop area bigger and divide it into sections with separate runs.
That is all I have for now. I have planted grapes, raspberries, blackberries, blue berries, apple trees, pear trees and peach. I have a lot more to do, I want some pecan trees and some plum trees, although we have some Mexican plum trees on one side of the yard...growing wild, they aren't good for just picking and eating...you have to make jelly or wine out of them.
