We Needed a Bed!

If you have ever been a "Do it yourselfer", you know that you push through a lot of pain to get things done sometimes.  When you are sleeping on an air mattress for month's and you have bulging disks in your back, hip problems and have had foot surgeries and have metal in your feet...doing things yourself when it is cold and wet, taking short showers and having to cook on a camp stove...you need comfort, a good nights sleep without tossing and turning because of pain.  I was getting mad it was taking Home Depot so long.

I finally called and got the right person at Home Depot!  She said because I wasn't informed properly about the backorder and delay they would go ahead and install the carpet. I got a date for at least the installation of carpet.  Because we have three cats and at this point one puppy...we only had the Master Bedroom and the guest room carpeted.  Finally we had progress!  We had to hurry and finish painting those rooms.  I had been painting the walls and my husband was painting the ceilings in each room.  We really had to paint them twice, pretty much two coats on everything.  The house had had smokers in it and the walls were kind of nasty, it had been empty long enough that the smell was not to bad without the old carpet in it, but even with the paint having primer in it some of the nicotine bled through on the ceiling.  We painted darker colors and we discovered that when you are tired, you miss a lot of spots, especially when you are painting and doing repairs on a 2400 square foot house.

We had to ask Sara, Crew's daughter to take care of the cats for us.  If we weren't gone from the Dallas house but a couple of days, she would just stop by and check on them.  If we were gone a week, she would stay awhile play with them, clean up and such...this was one of those times.  We had decided to go back to the Dallas house and had made it about 30 miles or so when the carpet layers called and said they had a cancellation and could be there in the morning.  We looked at each other and Crew turned the truck around and headed back to the country house.  You have to remember, we only took enough clothes with us for a few days, enough towels to shower during that time.  We had very minimum supplies.  But, we decided to turn back and just go get things we needed from the nearest town.  In a matter of hours we would have warm carpet in the bedrooms!

We were not done painting either!  We had planned on going home to the Dallas house, getting a good nights sleep, picking up some tools, doing laundry and resupplying our food...but we wanted carpet more.  I went to the store and Crew started painting when we got back. We needed food and clean towels.  I started painting too, when I got back.  Crew had taped off everything and started rolling on the wall color in the guest room and I started on the Master Bedroom.  He did a lot of the walls and I did around the edges, corners and ceilings.

The carpet layers made it around 11:00am the next day and got to work laying the padding.  The carpet we splurged on, we got the best padding they had because of the moisture and humidity in East Texas, and a high grade carpet with a long warranty that was super soft...it was only two rooms, so we just did it.  It looked really good when they finished laying the carpet and it was so much better than walking around on cold concrete.  It was also nice to have two rooms completed!  We could move some of the things we needed now.  We had a bed that had been in storage for a long time that we could move into the bedroom.  No more sleeping on an air mattress!

Things were looking up.
